A history of fragmentation in the international currency system will be difficult to overcome without accessing existing blockchain technology.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a working paper on 17 February describing the outlook for CBDC development in Latin America & The Caribbean. The IMF wants Central Bankers in the region to adapt their CBDC development to existing cross-border realities. Blockchain technology, it argues, could be part of an eventual solution.
